How to play
- Climb from the top word to the bottom word.
- Each rung changes exactly one letter, and every rung must be a real word.
- Par is the fewest rungs it can be done in. You have par plus five rungs, and a rung once climbed stays.
- A word that does not fit costs nothing: you are told why and can try again.
One puzzle a day, the same for everyone. No hints and no second goes: your result stands until tomorrow's puzzle.

About Stepwise
A word ladder (Lewis Carroll called them Doublets) links two words through a chain of real words, each one letter away from the last. COLD becomes WARM by way of CORD, CARD and WARD.
Every Stepwise ladder is checked so the shortest climb uses everyday words, and no obscure word can beat par. Everyone gets the same ladder on the same day.
