Instrument Serif and Satoshi, a free font combination

A tall, narrow serif for headlines and a round, plain sans for everything else. Both are free.

Font combination

Instrument Serif + Satoshi

Slow mornings, warm bread and good light

Instrument Serif has the tall, narrow letters of a magazine cover. Satoshi is round and plain, so it stays out of the way at small sizes. Together they look like an editorial site that also works as an app.

How to use it

  • Instrument Serif comes in one weight, Regular, plus an italic. Use size for hierarchy and keep it at 40 px and up, where its thin strokes look deliberate.
  • Satoshi does the rest: body text at 16 to 18 px, buttons at 500 or 700, small labels at 700.
  • Set one word of a headline in Instrument Serif Italic for emphasis. It is the most recognisable thing about the pair.

Free to use in personal and commercial work. No credit needed, though a link back is always nice.
